4BC is a talkback radio station transmitting on the AM band at the 1116 frequency and is now available on digital radio. The station’s content consists of a variety of talkback programs as well as entertainment, information, news, sport and traffic reports.

In late 2007, all Southern Cross Broadcasting stations were purchased by the Fairfax Network. As a result, 4BC is now a part of the Fairfax Radio Network, which also includes sister stations 4BH in Brisbane, 2UE in Sydney, 3AW and Magic 1278 in Melbourne, and 6PR and 96fm in Perth. 4BC uses the Fairfax Network to deliver news and information to Brisbane listeners, drawing on resources from the Fairfax Radio Network, Fairfax newspapers and online sites including Brisbane Times.

4BC’s key demographic is the over 55s and is quite popular in the evenings.

History:

4BC began operation in 1930. On 16 August 1930, 4BC commenced its first broadcast featuring a ball-by-ball account of the first Australian cricket tour test match against England. 4BC began with only five staff members, transmitting programs for six hours a day. The station has passed through the hands of different owners. After over 80 years of broadcasting 4BC is currently owned by Fairfax.
