Soundwave
A national alternative rock festival
Soundwave is an annual music festival held in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth at the beginning of each year. The festival originated in Perth, Western Australia and began travelling to the other Australian capital cities in 2007. It features a number of international and Australian music acts, with over 50 bands performing in 2010. The festival includes a number of genres encompassing, metal, hardcore, punk rock, acoustic rock, pop punk and alternative rock. The festival has been headlined by acts such as, Good Charlotte, The Offspring, Nine Inch Nails, Alice in Chains, Bloodhound Gang, Iron Maiden and Faith No More. The 2011 event is set to be headlined by System of a Down and Slipknot.
The festival will return to Brisbane RNA Showgrounds on 25 February 2011.
History:Soundwave originated as a smaller festival known as Gravity Soundwave within the Gravity Games. The Gravity Games were water-based and action sports held in South Perth along the Swan River.
Gravity Soundwave was introduced in the festival’s first year, which was held on 14 and 15 October 2004. American pop punk band Good Charlotte effectively became the first headline act of Soundwave when they performed on the festival’s first night.
The third and final year of the Gravity Games festival in Perth was moved to December 2006, instead of October. In 2007 the festival expanded and moved to Brisbane and Sydney, while Melbourne and Adelaide released dates and venues in 2008.
