AUSTAR
Australia’s second largest subscription television provider
AUSTAR serves customers outside of the major metropolitan areas, providing to approximately 2.4 million homes using digital satellite technology.
AUSTAR aims to continually provide increased interactivity for their customers. AUSTAR Service includes over 180 premier channels, 13 High Definition (HD) channels, a near video-on-demand service and increased levels of interactivity through BOX OFFICE, Sports Active and SKY News Active. MyStar and MyStar HD – AUSTAR’s personal digital recorders (PDRs) launched in 2008 and 2009 respectively – allow consumers to pause, rewind and record live TV. These PDRs also contain two digital free-to-air tuners, which enable viewers to watch their local, digital free-to-air channels in addition to AUSTAR channels without having to purchase a separate digital set-top-box.
AUSTAR employs over 800 employees, approximately 700 of who are based at the company’s National Customer Operations Centre on the Gold Coast, Queensland. The remainder are based in AUSTAR’s corporate office in Sydney.
History:Established in 1995, AUSTAR’s television subscriber base has grown to over 760,000 and is the largest subscription television operator in regional and rural Australia. Since then, AUSTAR has invested over $1 billion to establish its technology platforms, customer service centre and to provide innovative services to regional Australia.
