These profiles give important insights into the past, present and future of the media and communication industries.
The Brisbane Media Map is a valuable resource for anyone interested in Brisbane’s media and communication industries. Industry professionals, potential investors, job seekers, researchers and students have all found the Brisbane Media Map to be a useful tool when investigating Brisbane’s media landscape. It is primarily used for networking, collaboration, research and employment.
The Brisbane Media Map project was originally created in response to policy issues within the creative industries sector. To date, the value and economic contribution of the creative industries has been overlooked. Traditional policy settings no longer apply to the new economy and have contributed to the undervaluing of the creative industries. The Brisbane Media Map is an example of a mapping project that draws attention to this and attempts to correct the current flaws in empirical analysis.
The Brisbane Media Map highlights the contribution, breadth and depth of the media and communication industries as part of the broader creative industries sector, in the geographical area of Brisbane and surrounds. The site is redeveloped and updated annually by final year Media and Communications students from the Creative Industries Faculty at Queensland University of Technology. The project is conducted with an authentic learning focus. The project and assessment requirements give students vocationally relevant experience and the opportunity to network with industry.
